Why do you need a content strategy?

Your business relies on the fact that potential customers will be able to find you. In this day and age, an online-only clothing brand from Europe has the same amount of potential exposure as the mom-and-pops clothing store on main street that’s been here for years. In fact – some may say they have more potential, because they put all their focus into online marketing.

This article will act as an example for how a simple Content Strategy of any kind can benefit your small business.

Joe Schmoe’s Clothes

Mr Joe Shmoe from Terrace comes to us and asks us to help him with his website. He says, “Hunter I need help! My clothing shop has all the new styles, and a killer website, but no one knows about us!!!!”

I say, no prob, bob… I mean joe..

I say, “Joe, worry not, we’re gonna get you the attention you deserve. I’m gonna call you tomorrow, and we can get started.”

The next day I say, “Joe, here’s the plan. We’re gonna write a few articles:
– 5 Winter Must-Haves in Terrace BC
– 7 Warming Gifts to Give to Anybody!
– How to Keep Active in Terrace This Winter.
– How to Stay Fashionable All Winter.

These articles are going to be the end-point for our calls-to-action. The calls-to-action will bring the audience to the articles, and the articles will (hopefully), bring the audience to your products. Now we need a medium to make the call.

Social Media

Joe, now we’re gonna get you started with an Instagram campaign, with the hashtag: #2HotForTheHolidays with the theme being all about staying trendy and stylish in the winter. We’re gonna encourage your customers to share their own photos (with your hashtag) of your products and how they wear them, for a chance to win a $25 in-store gift card and get their photo posted on your Instagram account.

While this campaign is brewing, we’ll be posting/sharing your articles on Instagram, while also using Carousel Ads on Instagram to show teasers of your articles to people that have similar interests to your existing customer base.

We will also make use of Collection Ads to show your products in use, then show the products themselves and provide a quick way to link them to your website.

Every post will be made at the daily prime-times for Instagram, and every article will be shared with a locally relevant photo and a link back to your website.

This takes time and patience. You won’t see an immediate boost in sales, but you will see more talk about your business and it will encourage your users to start sharing your products.

Never let the cold keep you down.

A commonly neglected concept in small-business marketing, is that your customers are always your most reliable source of marketing. Who better to vouch for your products, than the people who already buy your products? 

Now for the big question..

Why do I need HF-IT for this?

The fact of the matter is, you don’t.

Anyone who can apply some basic marketing/social media principles can make a successful online campaign that will increase sales and brand reputation. You don’t need to be a professional, and you don’t need to have experience. But it helps.

I am in no way a “Marketing Genius” nor are we claiming to be the end of all your woes.

We do however, do this for a living, and we have more than enough time to spend improving your brand’s online performance.

A garden requires patient labor and attention. Plants do not grow merely to satisfy ambitions or to fulfill good intentions. They thrive because someone expended effort on them.
